What Will You Learn?
Course Overview: This course is part of the Master Degree Program in Grief Therapy at the School of Grief Education at AITU.
It is a 6-hour semester course that must be completed within 6 weeks.
The aim of this course is to provide students with an overview of major ethical issues in counseling and how to handle a variety of situations in practice, including self-awareness, multicultural sensitivity, legal issues, confidentiality, boundaries, multiple relationships, issues surrounding consultation and supervision, and a selection of ethical issues related to working with couples, families, groups, and communities.
Course Objectives:
- Gain an understanding of major ethical issues in counseling;
- Be self-aware and mindful of one’s own biases as a counselor;
- Understand major ethical concerns such as confidentiality, boundaries, multiple relationships, legal concerns, etc.;
- Learn about ethical concerns in supervision and consultation;
- Address some ethical concerns specific to work with couples, families, groups, and communities;
- Gain a working understanding of how to handle ethically challenging issues in counseling.
